Hand-Painted Overglaze Camellia Ceramic Vase

By artist Taomei:Every bloom, every leaf is painted stroke by stroke by my hand. Red petals with golden centers, with the unique texture of overglaze, just like camellias that just bloomed in the early morning, with a little dew, fresh and quiet. The lines of the branches are wobbly, not perfectly neat—that’s what handcraft means, right? No two pieces are exactly the same, just like camellias in the mountains, each with its own posture. Those two little characters “Shangu” (Valley) next to it are my signature, like a painter stamping a scroll, telling it: you came from the mountains.
Its shape is steady too—tall straight neck, round belly, heavy in your hands, like holding a handful of spring. Tuck in a few dry plum branches, or leave it empty on the living room shelf, and it can calm you down at once—like walking into a valley, the wind carrying the scent of camellias.
