By artist Arden：When crafting this cup, what I most wanted to capture was the stark elegance of “plum blossoms blooming through ice”—and the blue and white ice plum pattern is one of the most patience-testing designs in Jingdezhen porcelain.
Craft-wise, the ice plum pattern requires two painstaking steps: first, I lay down a rich, deep blue glaze across the entire cup to create the “ice surface” base. Then, using a fine brush, I carefully trace each plum blossom and branch with white glaze, one stroke at a time. This is the most grueling part: the white glaze must be thin and even, never bleeding into the blue, and every petal and twig must be precise. One wrong move blurs the design, undoing hours of work. I often sit at my desk for an entire day under the lamp to finish a single cup, my fingertips sore from gripping the brush—but when the white blossoms unfurl across the blue ice, it feels like all the effort was worth it.
In traditional aesthetics, the ice plum symbolizes resilience and purity—the quiet strength of blooming through harsh winters.
