By artist Modu:I use the traditional underglaze blue technique, dipping a fine brush into mineral cobalt pigment to draw every line: the layered mountains in the distance, the gnarled branches of the red-blossom tree, the tiny cottage by the river, the stones along the bank. The red blossoms are added with a mineral red pigment, fired at high temperature to lock in the color forever. This is the same method our ancestors used during the Ming and Qing dynasties—no stencils, no shortcuts, just hand and eye, patience and practice. The shape is a classic “pear-shaped teapot,” pulled on the wheel by hand, not cast in a mold. I spend hours refining the curve of the body, the angle of the spout, the weight of the handle—so it sits comfortably in the hand, pours smoothly, and balances perfectly when filled. The lid is shaped like a water drop, a small detail that echoes the quiet flow of the river in the painting. This teapot is for the quiet moments: early mornings with a cup of green tea, afternoons spent chatting with old friends, evenings of meditation with a single cup of oolong. It’s not for loud parties or quick drinks. It’s for slowing down, for remembering the beauty of the mountains and rivers, for honoring the craft that has been passed down through generations.

My Jingdezhen trip was tight, so I ordered after returning. Secure packaging with a protective tea towel. Smooth glossy glaze, crisp patterns, great hand feel. Perfect for tea brewing.
