Hand-Painted Plum Blossom & Bird Ceramic Mug

By artist Modu：we use Gaoling clay from the original mines, refined and kneaded by hand to create a translucent high-white body. When held to light, it glows softly, a quality that sets our porcelain apart from ordinary ware—this is the “noble texture” you see, passed down from the imperial kilns of old.
Then the painting: I use the traditional underglaze blue technique, dipping a fine brush into cobalt mineral pigment to draw the plum branches and birds. The bright red plum blossoms are added with mineral red pigment, then the whole mug is fired at over 1300°C, locking the colors forever under a clear glaze. No stencils, no shortcuts—every line, every petal, every feather is guided by hand and eye, honed over years of practice.
The plum blossom and bird motif is a classic in Chinese art: plum blossoms bloom in winter, a symbol of resilience and purity; the bird perched on the branch represents joy and good fortune. This is not just decoration—it’s a story, a wish for strength and happiness in every sip.
